Taft College’s campus community will have to wait a little longer to find out who the new boss is.
After deliberating in closed session again Thursday night, Board of Trustees president Billy White said no action was taken.
However, during the regular portion of the board’s monthly meeting interim Supt./Pres. Dr. Richard (Dick) Giese did reveal that while no official action has been taken “the board did identify a preferred candidate at this point.”
That candidate – one of three finalists the board considered after whittling the field down from the nine delivered by a selection committee – has been contacted and the process has begun to negotiate a contract.
“The consultant will be handling that negotiation,” Giese said.
The college contracted with a professional recruiting service to advertise the superintendent/president vacancy nationwide and provide consulting services to the campus selection committee.
John Averill and Dean Colli are meeting with the board’s “preferred choice” to work out an agreement.
“The board will give them some direction,” Giese said, indicating an announcement would be coming perhaps sometime next week.
He praised the committee, which had representatives from all factions on campus as well as community members.
“The committee did a good job,” he said. “I commend everybody for their tremendous effort, and I think everyone will be pleased (with the board’s choice).”
