A parolee was arrested at the end of a high-speed vehicle pursuit and short foot chase early Tuesday.
It started just after 11:30 p.m. when Kern County Sheriff's deputies received a report of a truck stolen from the Fastrip on the 200 block of Harrison and ended about 30 minutes later when the suspect wrecked the stolen vehicle and was arrested a short distance away while trying to escape on foot.
Anthony Lemler, 25, of Taft has been booked into the Kern County jail on numerous charges.
Deputies received the report that a Nissan truck with the keys left in it had been stolen from the Fastrip at 11:36 p.m. and began searching for it.
A short time later, a deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.
The suspect fled, however, and ended up heading east on Wood Street, crossing Highway 33 and continuing east on Petroleum Club Road at a high rate of speed.
By this time the Sheriff's helicopter joined the chase.
The suspect lost control of the truck and it rolled off Petroleum Club Road near Seven Sisters Road.
As the spotter in the helicopter watched, Lemler exited the truck and fled into the fields.
The helicopter kept the suspect illuminated in its spotlight and Lemler was arrested a short distance away.
Lemler was charged with vehicle theft, felony evading arrest, resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
He is also being held on the parole hold.
