Three people were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 46 west of Lost Hills Monday night.
The California Highway Patrol said in a news release that a Jeep Cherokee crossed from the eastbound lanes into oncoming traffic and collided with a GMC Safari Van with four passengers.
The dead include an 18-year-old woman from Lafayette, Ca, a community in Contra Costa County, and two men from the Salinas area.
The woman was driving the Jeep and the driver and right rear passenger in the van were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two more men in the van were seriously injured.
The identities of the dead have not yet been released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The injured men were pulled from the van by passers-by as it started to catch fire, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
They were identified by the CHP as David Cerritos Serrano, 32, of Los Angeles and Juan Jose Garcia, from Vancouver, Wa.
One of the injured was flown to Kern Medical Center and the second victim was taken by ground ambulance to KMC. Their injuries were described as moderate to major.
The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. on Highway 46 just east of Brown Material Road about two miles west of Lost Hills.
Highway 46 was closed for more than three hours.
