July 25, 1947 – July 16, 2017
Julie was born and raised in Taft, CA and attended local schools where she made lifelong friends, many of whom have wonderful memories of the reunions she organized for the class of ’65.
In recent years, Julie had been reviewing and organizing photos and memories from her childhood, including her father’s and grandfather’s photos taken all over our state. Her family traveled with the Taft Photography Club, camping, and taking photographs. As a result, she had an appreciation for nature and art and a love of travel.
She will be best remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and creativity. Julie delighted in giving, and always seemed to find the perfect gift for everyone she loved, and could be counted on to remember every birthday, anniversary, and holiday with a carefully chosen card. Many of the gifts were made with her own hands. A talented seamstress, who made clothing and window treatments for many family members and friends, Julie was called on many times to help decorate for events and homes.
Her love for animals, especially cats, will also be remembered. Her home, decorated carefully and beautifully by her, reflected the love of the jungle and the animals that live within.
Julie was preceded in death by her brother, Ward Hankins; her parents, Bill and Rosemary Hankins; her grandson, Gage Tifft; her third husband, Randy Brown; and her best friend, Carolyn Mack.
Julie is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Drewry and Angela Low, and their families, and Randy’s daughters, Carris Brown, Carmen Brown, and Clare Cupples, and their families. The girls will miss her unconditional love and support. She was truly their biggest cheerleader. They take comfort in the knowledge that their mother is reunited in heaven with all her family members and friends whom she has missed and mourned.
Julie lived with Multiple Sclerosis and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, finally succumbing to complications from these diseases, peacefully.
Services have been planned for 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home, at 501 Lucard Street, in Taft, CA, followed by a commitment at the West Side Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name, may be made to one of her favorite charities; St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or KLOVE Radio.
