1929 – 2018

Alice was born December 26, 1929 in Kingsburg, CA to George Meyers of Missouri and Helen (Whitmore) Meyers of Michigan. She passed away peacefully with her beloved family at her side in Bakersfield, CA on February 3, 2018, she was 88 years old. Alice attended Kingsburg grammar schools and graduated from Kingsburg Union High School in 1947.
Alice married Robert F. Smith June 15, 1947 and they had four children. In 1956 they moved to the old Tidewater Oil Co. Lease at Carneros, north of McKittrick, CA.  In 1958 the family moved to Taft, CA and Alice lived the rest of her life in Taft. Alice was proud of being a housewife and raising her four children. After her children were older, many people will remember Alice from running Country Boy Produce in Ford City for many years and co-owning Bob’s Feed and Seed store with her late husband. Alice also worked as a receptionist at the Taft College Children’s Center. Alice was a member of West Hills Church of The Nazarene, Senior Citizens Club of Taft and Deserette Club. She always stated that her greatest accomplishment was raising four successful children and having a special relationship with all their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George & Helen Meyers and her late husband Robert F. Smith. She is survived by her sisters Eleanor Riley (Bob) of Redmond, WA and Marlene Rassmussen of Clovis, CA, brother George E. Meyers (Gail) of Hanford, CA, daughters Arlene and Larry DeClue of Auburn, CA, Marilyn and Russell Smith of Taft, CA, sons, Robert and Sandy Smith of Enoch, UT and Gary and Kathy Smith of Bakersfield, CA. Alice is also survived by grandchildren Scott Graupman, Jeff and Sarah DeClue, Steven DeClue, Craig Graupman, Alicia and Mitch Hammons, Michael DeClue, Shawna and Leonard Quenneville , Eric and Crystal Smith, Chris Smith, and Michael and Tanya Smith. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Shaylan Hammons, Chloe and Ruby Declue, Sierra, Aspen, Nixon and Noah Smith and Derek, Easton and Maci Quenneville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home prior to the service on February 9, with private graveside services to be held at Westside Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Erickson and Brown Funeral Home of Taft.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in the memory of Alice M. Smith.
