1926 - 2018

Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep in Los Osos CA on 2/28/2018, at the age of 91.

Born in 1926, Margaret was kind, energetic, and cheerful all her life. She was born and grew up in Taft, married her true love, Marine Corps Captain George Gemanis, in 1946, and relocated to Fresno to start a family, raising two daughters, Valerie and Stacey. Gemanis Signs was successful, and Margaret and George (and the girls) often worked together on the larger jobs. Margaret prided herself in being a wonderful and ideal wife and mother...and wonderful she was! Her love extended to all the family and her dear friends—her nieces and nephews adored her. All who met Margaret loved her.

Margaret and George had a vacation beach home for many years. It was an “open house” to family and friends, creating so many wonderful experiences and memories for all. The couple traveled extensively abroad over the years visiting most of Europe, many Asian countries as well as visits to Central and South America and also much of the United States. They traveled to Mexico at least 25 times. Margaret was a primary figure in her knitting group (ongoing for many, many years) which was fondly known as the “Stitch & Bitch Club.” She loved volunteering at St. George’s in the very busy kitchen as the church began its preparation of the wonderful food served at the annual Greek Festival.

Their marriage was long and happy. But, Margaret did not slow down after his passing in 2005, after 58 years of marriage. She moved to Los Osos to be near her daughters. And though the loss of her beloved husband was the saddest time in her life, she continued with energy, optimism, and fun—a very busy and full life trying new restaurants, social activities, and hosting family gatherings to have everyone to her home for dinner and “game night.” She enjoyed and planned many outings for shopping, sightseeing, plus domestic and foreign travel.

Margaret had a dream life and she lived it well. She is survived by her daughters, Valerie and Stacey, four grandchildren, Shandeen, Tracy, Derek, and Erin, one great-granddaughter, Lindsay, and her dear brother, George.

A funeral Service will be held at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home in Taft CA on 3/12/2018 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Fresno.
