Graves Hiram Adkins, also known as “Bart,” an 85 year old Etna resident, passed away at his home on Monday evening, April 2, 2018.


Bart was born on May 18, 1932, in Chandler, Arizona, to Hollie and Anna Adkins. He was raised in Southern California.


Bart was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Seabees, stationed in Japan.


On May 3, 1952, he married Betty Jean Schofield in Yuma, Arizona. Bart worked as an operating engineer in the highway construction industry for over 30 years. The couple later moved to Siskiyou County in 1986 from the Moreno Valley area of Riverside. Bart loved fishing, wood working and gardening.


Bart is survived by his wife, Betty of Etna; two sons, David of Roseville and Steven of Yreka; three sisters, Janice, Joan and Sandy; a brother, Larry; seven grandchildren; three great grandsons; and a great granddaughter.


He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Diane McCann in 2016 and a sister, Betty Jean.


A memorial graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Fort Jones Cemetery.
