June 27, 1943 - Wednesday, May 23, 2018
James Earl Swearengin was born on June 27, 1943. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at age 74. He was surrounded by loved ones. Jim was born in Taft to Wayne and Thelma Swearengin. He graduated from Taft Union High School in 1962. He married Deanna Potter, the love of his life, on February 12, 1965.
While Jim spent some time in the oil fields, his calling was the automotive industry where he worked for 45 years. Jim had an exceptional career which isn’t surprising since it combined two of his passions, nice cars and talking to people. He retired from Three-Way Chevrolet in January 2010. Jim was larger than life and loved growing up and raising his family in Taft. He was active in the Optimist, Dance, and Petroleum Club while also serving on the Oildorado Board and as Oildorado President in 2000. He was a member of West Hills Church of the Nazarene.
The love for his family stands out the most. Jim enjoyed dancing with Deanna and visiting with friends over a gold Cadillac margarita. You might find him cheering on his eldest grandchild, James at a swim meet or see him swell with pride while listening to his middle grandchild, Josh play guitar. Jim looked forward to watching sports with his son, John and cooking “the best breakfast ever” for the youngest grandchild, Alli. Jim was a great encourager to his “pumpkin”, Jill.
Memories of Jim singing to the Eagles while BBQing in the backyard for family and friends will not be forgotten. Jim loved with his whole heart and his zest for life was contagious. Jim knew his blessings and valued the people in his life. While the Eagles sang, “some dance to remember, some dance to forget” it is without a doubt that Jim would want everyone to dance and remember.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deanna. His daughter, Jill and her husband Rick Ekberg and their two sons, James and Josh. His son, John and his wife Brandi and daughter, Alli.
The service will be graveside at West Side District Cemetery on 440 East Cedar Street in Taft, California on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10 AM. The services are under the direction of the Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest. www.Greenlawnm-c.com
