April 14, 1931 - June 30, 2018

Coleen Vivian Garratt was born to Clarence and Pearl Hawkins on April 14, 1931 in Taft CA. She passed away in Bakersfield CA on June 30th, 2018 surrounded by family.

Coleen married Leonard Garratt in 1947. They shared a home on Lucard St where she continued to reside until her passing. Her next door neighbor was her sister in-law Fern Garratt and the ladies enjoyed meeting nightly for cocktails and conversation.

Family meant everything to Coleen, and even though she and Lindy were unable to have children, they had a large extended family. They “adopted” Bill Graffius in his teen years as their son and opened their hearts and home to him.

Coleen loved to travel with family and friends. She especially enjoyed cruises. She enjoyed frequent trips with her friends Art and Linda Walter to casinos from Las Vegas to Branson, and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.

She was a pet lover who, over the years, raised five dogs before recently turning her attention to cats. Two of her cats, Sammy and Hundred Bucks, shared her home but her outside patio was home to many cats that wanted shelter and food.

Coleen is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister in-law Fern Garratt and son Bill Graffius and his wife Barbara. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest. www.Greenlawnm-c.com
