W.C.M.A to Host 3rd Annual BBQ to Benefit Local Salvation Army We all know times are tough, there aren’t many who have not been affected by our local economy. But things are especially tough for local charities and non-profits. The Salvation Army is no exception. They have seen a dramatic decrease in financial donations. For those of you not aware, Salvation Army does more than stand out in front of stores at Christmas time ringing bells. In fact most of the money they make for the entire year comes from those bright red kettles. And when giving is low so are the resources available to people in need.  To my surprise I learned that the Salvation Army does more than even I realized. They can help pay utilities when a notice of termination has been issued. They offer gas vouchers for medical necessities, clothes vouchers for work clothes and boots. They even have an emergency food bank that is open on Wednesday only. This is just some of the things that our local Salvation Army does. They also work in conjunction with the West Side Community Resource Center which offers many, beneficial resources to our local residents. One thing that’s important to know is ALL donations collected at Christmas and throughout the year stays right here on the West Side! So when you give to them, your giving to our your city, you would be helping, your neighbors. Just imagine if we all gave a little to help the people in our city. No child would have to go hungry, no one would be without adequate shelter or clothing and we would all be better for it. That’s why The Westside Christian Ministers Association will be hosting the 3rd annual BBQ to benefit our local Salvation Army. So if you have a heart for our city and the people in this town or just like good food, then I know we can count on you to come out to the BBQ this Sunday June 6th from 11:30pm-1:00pm. There will be tri-tip or chicken sandwiches with a drink, dessert and chips for $10. Hot dog combo with drink, chips and dessert are just $3. Benefit will be held at the Taft Veterans Park, (located at kern and 119). If you have any questions about the Salvation Army, or the Resource Center, want to make a donation or need assistance you can reach them at 765-7281. Ask for Pam or Sandy, both great gals. Their office is located inside the Fort at 915 N. 10th St suite 20. Hope to see you there! Matthew 25:40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Be blessed and be encouraged.
