JV will kickoff at 6 p.m., varsity at 8:30 p.m.

Taft High's football season openers against Kern Valley Friday night will be starting an hour later than usual.

But it's not because of the weather (which will be hot).
It's due to a shortage of football officials.

The junior varsity game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will kick off at 8:30 p.m.

TUHS Athletic Director Robert Ramirez said Taft High had to get officials from the central coast to work the games, and the starting times were pushed back because of travel time for the crew.

A shortage of officials has become an issue for sports in the area.
A lack of crews forced rescheduling of numerous basketball games in the 2017-18 season.
