Taft warms up for season opener in Tehachapi
Last Friday, the Taft High JV and varsity football teams scrimmaged the Tehachapi Warriors and the South High Rebels.
Coach Falgout had a few comments about the scrimmage and the team. “The scrimmage was good for us, it gives us a chance to hit somebody else and see where we need to work on things. Overall the scrimmage went well. There are a few things that we need to work on.”
“Offensively, we handled our business. We messed up on a couple of our assignments, but overall it was an encouraging performance from the team. Coltin Hamblin got the majority of the carried during the scrimmage. Jordan Miranda was really effective against South and ran the ball really well. As I mentioned before, our plan is to get three yards a down when we run the ball.”
The coach went on to say, “Jackson Van Roekel came in for a couple sets and threw some good passes. Nick Vargas, our backup quarterback, came in and made some really good runs and threw some good passes as well.”
“On the defensive side of the ball, I feel we did ok, but we need to wrap up and tackle better. Alex Garcia, Sawyer Talnenetz and Christian Burleson had some big plays on defense during the scrimmage.”
Another bright spot during the scrimmage was Bryson Bullard running for a 60 yard touchdown run. After he ran into the end zone, all the Wildcats players and the players from South and Tehachapi, ran into the end zone to congratulate Bryson.
Coach Falgout said, “It was an amazing moment. Bryson works really hard at practice so I put him in the game to reward that hard work. To see the other two teams run down the field to congratulate another player, it really showed a lot of character from those boys.”
