Taft beats east for only win

The varsity volleyball team played in the East High Volleyball Tournament over the weekend. The team came away with three losses and one win.

The team lost to Porterville 2-0 and Tehachapi 2-0, got the win against East High 2-0, then lost to McFarland 2-1.

In the Porterville match, the team accumulated nine kills. Morgan Pulido led the way with four, Bree Johansen had two, and Rylee Mizener, Cherise Strong and Mahaila Laulu each had one.

There were two service aces in the game — one apiece from Mizener and Strong. Strong had the lone block in the game.

There were 17 digs against Porterville. Johansen led the way with six, Mariah Nevarez had five, Pulido grabbed three, Laulu had two and Strong had one. Breann Bracken came up with two assists during the game.

In the match against Tehachapi, the Wildcats had nine kills. Ashmore led the team with six, Pulido had two and Strong had one. There were two service aces in this game by the team. Bracken and Strong each had one.

Taft was not able to come up with any blocks in this game. They did come up with 26 digs against the Warriors and nine assists.

The Wildcats came up with a win against East High. They had 16 kills against the Blades, Reagan Hamilton had the most with seven and Ashmore had three. Pulido and Johansen had two and Jordan and Strong had one apiece to end the game.

Bracken served up two service aces and Jordan and Johansen each had one. There were no blocks in the game and 27 digs. Nevarez led the team with six and Montgomery and Pulido each had five. Johansen grabbed three, Rodriguez and Ashmore each had two. Bracken, Jordan, Strong and Hamilton all had one. Bracken had 13 assists and Nevarez had one.



In the loss to McFarland, the 'Cats had 15 kills, six aces, two blocks, 28 digs and 14 assists.
