Alison Mizener had 70 digs in four matches at Delta Tournament

Taft College's volleyball team opened the Central Valley Conference season Wednesday by sweeping Reedley College on the road.

The Cougars are coming off a grueling noncoference season
At the Delta Tournament in Stockton Cougars went 1-3, losing to Butte 3-2 (19-25,22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 10-15; losing to Fresno 3-0 (15-25, 11-25, 11-25); defeating Shasta 3-0 for their first win of the season 25-20, 25-16, 25-17; and losing to San Mateo 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 17-25, 16-25)
Leaders of the pack for Taft in the Cougars’ eight matches this season have been sophomores Erin Fujitani, Allison Mizener and Madison Dougherty, who all showed consistent play in the tournament.
Fujitani, a 5-1 outside hitter from Hawaii, had 47 kills in the tournament, defensive specialist and former Taft High Wildcat Mizener turned in 70 digs and Ridgeview (Bakersfield) product Dougherty was an all-around standout with 33 kills and 53 digs.
