Cougars lose to Hartnell but beat Cabrillo

Taft College's women’s soccer team had mixed results when they ventured to the north last weekend, losing 2-0 to Hartnell College in Salinas on Friday before cruising to a 5-0 victory over Cabrillo College a bit further north in Aptos
Hartnell’s Belinda Ascencio scored both goals while the Panther defense pitched a shutout.
It was a different story the next day when freshman defender Dominique Olivares took a pass from midfielder Vicky Bojorquez in the 12th minute and the Cougars never looked back.
Midfielder Maria Jimenez scored on an assist from Bri-Leigh Snot in the waning seconds of the first half to make it 2-0, then scored again just over a minute into the second half.  Hillary Barragan got the assist.
It remained 3-0 until the 63rd minute when Bianca Mercado converted a pass from Jimenez, who scored the final goal two minutes later off Cindy Romo’s pass.
