Argument escalates into fight. Victim airlifted to KMC

A Taft man was stabbed when an argument turned into a fight late Saturday night.

The victim, Michael Patterson, 24, was stabbed once in the chest during the fight at a home on the 200 block of E. San Emidio at Williams Way at 10:53 p.m., Taft Police Lt. Ed Whiting said.

Patterson had been arguing with the suspect, Isaac John Miramontes, 19, when the argument escalated into a physical altercation and Miramontes pulled a knife and stabbed Patterson once in the chest.

Patterson was airlifted to Kern Medical Center. His condition is unknown, but Whiting said he was conscious at the scene and able to identify his attacker.

Miramontes fled from the scene but was arrested at gunpoint a short time later in an alley between Pine and Calvin streets.

Miramontes was still in police custody Monday morning awaiting a court appearance.
