Lady Indians fall in five sets

The Maricopa volleyball team got off to a rocky start last Thursday when they fell in five sets to Bethel Christian in Lancaster.

“They were a hard hitting team and we're learning from out mistakes,” said Maricopa coach Reina Cruz.

Bethel Christian cruised through the first set by a score of 25-7. Maricopa countered in set two, edging out Bethel Christian 25-22 to even the match at one. The seesaw battle continued when Bethel Christian won the third set 25-16.

Like the second set, the Lady Indians took the fourth set by a score of 25-21 before Bethel Christian won the fifth set 15-5.

Emily Phillips led Maricopa in points served with 11 while Maribel Gonzales had 6. Heidi Wise led in digs with 35 while Noemi Gomez had 19. Taylor Geer led the Lady Indians in kills with 3 while Crystal Dolley and Emily Phillips each had 2.
