Service will allow people to report certain types of crime at their convenience. Reports will be followed up as usual
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is offering a new online reporting system to the public. This web based reporting system will allow the public an opportunity to file certain types of crime and incident reports over the internet at their convenience. The Sheriff’s Office anticipates this internet based reporting system will be popular among citizens who have come to expect timely and convenient services online.
The service will allow citizens to file a report at a time that is best for them, without the need to wait for a patrol deputy to respond or make contact.
Citizens will be able to print a temporary copy of the report upon submitting the online report. The submitted report will be reviewed by sheriff’s staff and once approved, the citizen filing the report will receive an e-mail confirmation with a free copy of the report attached.
All online reports will be processed in the same manner as those reports taken by patrol deputies in the field. The report will be entered into the Sheriff’s Office records management system and will be referred for investigative follow up when appropriate.
The online reporting system can be accessed on the Sheriff’s Office web site at www.kernsheriff.com by choosing the “Online Reporting” link on the right hand side of the home page.

This online reporting option will enable deputies to devote more time to proactively address community needs and better respond to high priority calls. Ultimately, the goal is to continue to deliver the high level of professional public safety services expected of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Although the Sheriff’s Office expects this service to be widely used, the public will retain the option of having a deputy respond personally to take a report in the field or by telephone.
