Basketball and speed and strength camps get underway at Taft High

That time of the year has arrived when sports usually takes a break. That is not the case this year with several camps starting up in Taft.

The first to start up Monday afternoon was the basketball camp put on by the West Side Recreation and Park District. The camp, which has about 42 participants, teaches the fundamentals like dribbling the ball with Taft High varsity boys coach Jeff Hughes teaching the kids.

Later on in the day, the speed and strength camp got underway at the Taft High football field. About 86 (at last count Tuesday morning) with more to come were taking part.

The speed and strength camps are not the only sports going on right now. The Tiger Sharks and Babe Ruth are in full swing and a traveling soccer team is practicing for their upcoming games.

Later this month, the WSRPD’s tennis camp will get underway.
