Storms could drop up to an inch per hour

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the Southern San Joaquin Valley .

Slow-moving thunderstorms could drop heavy rain, causing flooding problems on area roadways, the NWS cautions.

The urban and small stream advisory will remain in effect

At 11 a.m. showers and storms were falling in northwestern Kern County from I-5 west and north of Highway 58

The storms could produce rain at rates of up to one inch per hour.

Heavy rain, accompanied thunder, lightning and hail, fell in Ford City early Thursday and some rain showers fell over the area just after 10 a.m.

Only a trace of rain was officially recorded in Taft.
