Cougars fall by four points

A strong second half pushed the Merced College Blue Devils to a 64-60 victory over Taft College Saturday in a Central Valley Conference women’s basketball game.

The Cougars held a slim 28-24 lead at the break before Merced surged back with balanced scoring.

It was the second straight conference loss for the Cougars since winning the CVC opener Jan. 9.

The Cougars shot just under 33 percent from the field (20 of 61) but the Blue Devils were just a bit better with 24 of 65.  Both teams made 14 free throws.

Rogenee Russell led the Blue Devils with 18 points and a game high 10 rebounds.
