Caller seeking credit card info calls saying bill is delinquent

The West Kern Water District is warning its customers of a telephone scam targeting their personal information.

The District was notified by a customer that they had been contacted by telephone from someone stating they were a representative of West Kern Water District and requesting credit card information to satisfy a delinquent water bill.

That is not true, the WKWD said in a statement issued Thursday morning.

"The District does not accept credit card payments over the phone and only issues notifications of delinquency to its customers in writing, not via telephone," said District General Manager Harry Starkey.

The District is requesting any customer who is contacted by telephone in this manner, to please notify the District office at 763-3151.
