More than 1,500 PG&E customers lose electicity

Much of Taft was in the dark for several hours Thursday night.

More than 1,500 customers lost their power just after 7 p.m. and it was at least an hour before many people started getting their electricity restored.

No reason was given for the outage, but several people reporting hearing popping noises or loud bangs just before the power went out.

There were unconfirmed reports that a transformer in the 400 block of North Street was the cause.

Power came back on gradually through the evening, and PG&E said it hoped to have all power restored by 10:30 p.m.

The outage affected a large part of Taft, mostly from Sixth Street to the east, including the airport addition, and parts of South Taft.

A total of 1,526 PG&E customers lost their power for at least a short while.
