Taft loses in four sets

The Taft varsity volleyball team ran into a wall Tuesday night when the Bakersfield Christian Eagles handed the Lady Wildcats a 15-25, 25-10, 25-17, 25-12 loss in Taft.

Taft had all of the momentum early on when they raced out to a 9-2 lead to begin the first set. Bakersfield Christian narrowed it to six but that was close as the Lady Eagles got over the remaining minutes of the set.

After Taft got the first two points of the second set, Bakersfield Christian came alive with a 6-0 run. The Lady Wildcats narrowed it to two before Bakersfield Christian went on a 14-3 run. Taft would get two points in the waning moments of the second set with one coming on an ace.

Bakersfield Christian jumped out to a 6-2 run to begin the third set before Taft closed the gap to two. The Lady Eagles took off again with a 7-0 run. Following a Taft point, the Lady Eagles outscored Taft 7-4. Taft closed the gap to seven late in the set but Bakersfield Christian held on for the third set win.

The Lady Eagles opened the final set with a 5-2 run before Taft fought back to tie the score at six. The set remained close until Bakersfield Christian went on a 13-4 run to close out the set and match.

Taft returns to action Thursday when they travel to Delano to face Robert F. Kennedy. The match starts at 6:15p.m.
