Two of the three sets were close

The Taft varsity volleyball team's joy of winning Tuesday's home match was temporary after they were defeated by the Bakersfield Christian Eagles 25-21, 25-21, 25-12 in Bakersfield Thursday evening.

Taft got off to a fast start by scoring the first two points of the opening sets. Bakersfield Christian bounced back with three unanswered points to take the lead. After Taft tied the score, Bakersfield Christian took off with a 4-1 run. The set remained close until the Lady Eagles went on a 5-1 run.

The Lady Wildcats bounced back to tie the score at 16. Taft and Bakersfield Christian went on to tie each other three times before the Lady Eagles scored the final four points to win the set.

Bakersfield Christian got off to a roaring start in the second set by outscoring Taft 6-1. The Lady Wildcats narrowed the deficit to four but the Lady Eagles went on a 4-1 run.

Taft countered by getting within three at 11-8 but Bakersfield Christian maintained the small lead the rest of the way.

Like the second set, the final set was close early. However, it was the Lady Wildcats that had the advantage by jumping out to a 7-3 lead. Taft held a 9-5 advantage before Bakersfield Christian went on a 20-3 run to close out the set and match.
