Flags fly at half staff, black bands worn over badges

The Kern County Board of Supervisor’s has proclaimed the week of May 12-16 May Peace Officer Memorial Week in Kern County.

This is a time we set aside to remember and honor all law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. During this period of observance, deputies will be wearing black mourning bands over their badges and flags at Sheriff’s Office facilities will be flown at half-staff.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office will hold its annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony to pay homage to members of the Sheriff’s Office who have lost their lives in service to the people of Kern County. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Office Memorial Monument at Sheriff’s Headquarters, 1350 Norris Rd. in Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department will host the annual county-wide memorial ceremony on the same date at noon at the Kern County Peace Officer’s Memorial at 1415 Truxtun Ave. in Bakersfield.

The public is invited to attend both events and join us as we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the citizens of Kern County.
