Rosedale scores all 23 runs in TOC victory

TAFT-All season long the Taft Yankees have been perfect against their opponents. The Yankees finally met their match Monday night when the Rosedale Giants erupted for a 23-0 victory in the Majors Division of the championship game of the Tournament of Champions.

“Sometimes you’re the bug, sometimes you’re the windshield, tonight we were the windshield,” said Taft coach Tom White. “This game is nothing for what the season was.”

Taft’s long night started in the bottom of the first inning when Rosedale erupted for 13 runs while sending 17 batters to the plate.
During that outburst, Brent Vasquez and Nick Salas had back-to-back doubles while Mason Moccardini and Jack Hatten also had back-to-back doubles a couple of batters later.

The Giants showed no signs of letting up later in the inning when Rose Silva, Salas and Moccardini each hit home runs with Silva’s and Moccardini’s coming on back-to-back.

Rosedale erupted again in the second inning. After loading the bases, Vasquez capped the rally by crushing the ball over the left field fence for a grand slam.

The Giants put the final touches to their night by scoring six runs in the bottom of the third inning while sending 10 batters to the plate.
Silva highlighted the rally with a three run home run. Vasquez followed by crushing a ball over the right field fence.

While Rosedale was building a huge lead, Taft had trouble getting runners on base. Through the first two innings of the game, the only runners to reach base were Manny Chavez on a hit by pitch in the first inning and J.D. Hall on an infield error in the second inning.

Taft put together a small rally in the third when Mike White singled to right field and Dalton Brown walked with two outs. However, the final batter grounded out to end the game after three and a half innings.
