Wasco erupts for 20 runs over two inning stretch

WASCO- If Taft thought their first game of the District 61 11-12 year olds all-star baseball tournament was tough, it was nothing compared to Tuesday afternoon’s game after Wasco cruised to a 20-1 victory to eliminate Taft.

“They hit the ball hard, we hit the ball right to them,” said Taft coach Joshua Bryant. “It’s a growing experience.”

It looked as if a pitcher’s duel was going to break out early in the contest. During the first and second innings only one batter reached base on Wasco’s leadoff walk to start the first inning.

Meanwhile, Taft’s Bostun Hacker struck out five out of the seven batters he saw with Wasco’s Gilbert Acevedo retiring all six batters he saw.

However, Wasco opened the floodgates in the top of the third inning. Over the course of the third inning Wasco sent 16 batters to the plate to score 11 runs. Damian Navarro had the highlight of the inning with a grand slam home run over the center field fence. Earlier in the inning Tommy Acmendar had a two run ground rule double over the left field fence.

All totaled, Wasco had six hits in the inning while taking advantage of five walks, an error and a hit batter.

There was no slowing down for Wasco in the top of the fourth inning when they erupted for nine runs while sending 14 batters to the plate.
Acmemdar had the highlight of the inning with a two run single while Joel Rocha had a double.

Taft’s bats finally came alive in the last half of the fourth inning. Tyler Terrell led off the inning and rally with a single to left field. After advancing to third on Drew Bartolomei’s double, Terrell scored on a ground out.

This may not be the last game for the players. Bryant is looking to start a travel baseball team. If interested contact Bryant for more details.
