Summer Series starts Saturday night at 6 p.m.
Arenacross returns to Taft Saturday night when the gate falls on the first races of the 2014 season.
Times are tough for a lot of people in the community and in off-road riding and racing, but Layton Melton Productions, the organizers of the popular summer series, aren't giving up.
Not only has Layton Melton continued to keep the popular racing series going, but they're starting to get more help.
Three sponsors – NTS, Hot Taps Services Incorporated and Oildale Tire in Taft have stepped in to help out.
The races are starting a little bit late this year and are holding five races (there were as many as 8 in years past) but it is still the same formula – watching local riders take on racers from around the area in quads, ATVs and of course dirt bikes.
The riders are ready, too. About 40 showed up Thursday night for practice.
The action kicks off at 6 p.m. at Franklin Field Arena. Gates open for the pits at 3 p.m.
Admission is only $5.
Top quality tri-tip and Polish dogs will be served up by Pit Stop Q.
Races are also scheduled for July 12, July 19, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.
