February 19, 1986 - August 13, 2014

A graveside funeral service for Marcus Allen Spell will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the West Side District Cemetery in Taft.  Pastor Joey Pittman will officiate.  Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.  Marcus and his twin brother, Michael, were born on February 19, 1986 to Nick and Gloria Spell in Taft, CA.  Marcus was a born fighter; his amazing strength was admired by every person he came in contact with from the day he was born.  Although Marcus faced many obstacles with his health all of his life, all of the surgeries and doctor visits never slowed him down or held him back.  Marcus attended local Taft schools, graduating across the stage from both Lincoln Jr. High and Taft High School.  Marcus loved computers—he not only operated them with his hands but he was very talented in using his feet as well.  From a young age, Marcus had a love for hats:  cowboy hats, silly hats and especially sombreros.  When Marcus found a passion for a certain toy or TV show, he was sure to tell everyone all about it.  He knew every little detail.  It did not matter if he had hundreds of bouncy balls or rubber snakes; he knew each and every one that he had.  Over the past 28 years Marcus made memories with many people including his siblings and cousins while growing up, with birthday parties, trips to Chuck E. Cheese, holiday gatherings at the park and, of course, playing video games where he never hesitated to give them his colorful opinion.  On Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Marcus was greeted in Heaven with open arms by those who preceded him in death: his dad, Nick Spell, his grandma, Vickie Barta, his grandfathers, Sully Flores and Jack Clark, his uncle, Craig Cross, his nephew, Bentley White and cousin Drea White.  Marcus left behind many loved ones: his mother, Gloria Spell, brothers and sister, Richard, Michael and JJ, Mathew and Marissa Spell, Wayne and Nikki Smith; his nieces and nephews, Nick and John and their mom, Megan, Noah, Aubrey, Lily, Aiden and his mom, Tia, Haisley and Ayva Spell, Drea Ryan, Kambria and Ethan Hodges and Bradley Smith; his grandparents, “Nana” Mary Clark, Jeannie Blevins and Gary Spell, Sr.; his aunts and uncles and their families, “Nina” Loretta Cross and Rex Thomas, Adam, Patrick, Mike and Luz Flores, Mike and Andy Clifton, Sheila Blair, Gary Danielle, Kenny, Sherri, Greg and Kim, Gary, Jr. and Deanna Spell, Holi and Randy Allen, Sunshine Snyder, Craig and Crystal Curtis, Dana and Mike Barham; numerous cousins, friends and extended family members.  The family has asked that in honor of Marcus’ love for hats that everyone where a crazy hat, cowboy hat or sombrero to Marcus’s service.
