Annual event includes limited number of mammograms, plus blood chemistry for $30

The annual Taft Rotary Club Health Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday with low cost medical testing and free consultations with a variety of medical specialists.

This year's event will include a limited number of mammograms by Truxtun Radiology. A large van will be on site, and 20 mammograms will be performed on a first-come, first served basis.

The cost is just $50.

The event offers unique opportunities for free consultations with a wide variety of medical specialists and it can make a big difference.

The 2015 Health Fair is sponsored by Rotary Club of Taft, First 5 Kern, Westside Healthcare District, Physician's Automated Laboratory, Sandman Technologies Inc., Truxtun Radiology, Taft College and Taft Union High School.

Comprehensive blood chemistry testing is available for just $50 plus PSA screening for men are available for $30 (overnight fasting required.).

Among the specialists on hand for the day will be allergist, rheumatologist, cardiologist, ear-nose-throat specialist, gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, dermatologist, oncologist, OB-Gyn, ophthalmologist, pulmonologist, rehabilitation therapist, podiatrist, dentist, chiropractor, home health and hospice.

There will also be pharmaceutical exhibits and other services. As an added bonus the West Side ROP and Buena Vista High School students are going to be selling casseroles, too.

The big events will be held at Buena Vista High School (right across the street from the Historic Fort on the 900 block of Tenth Street).

Last year's event drew more than 600 people to take advantage of the medical screenings and meet with doctors.

Taft's health fair is unique because of the free consultations, said Dr. Vibul Tang, a Rotarian and director of the event.

Other health fairs offer only exhibits and some screenings.
