Team outlasts Stockdale by two
The Taft boys basketball team was able to breathe a sigh of relief Thursday night when they pulled away in overtime to defeat the Stockdale Mustangs 55-53 on night two of the Kern School CU Invitational at North High School.
With the victory, Taft improves to 6-2 on the season.
Stockdale had the early edge outscoring Taft 12-8 in the first quarter. The Wildcats bounced back with 15 points to Stockdale's 13 in the second quarter to trail 25-23 at the end of the first half.
Taft took the lead at the end of the third quarter by outscoring Stockdale 10-4. The Mustangs roared back in a high scoring fourth quarter with 20 points to Taft's 16 to send the game into overtime.
The Wildcats had the momentum in the overtime period by scoring six points while Stockdale put up four.
Zach Kolb led Taft in scoring with 19 while Howell had 14.
Taft continued their tournament run tonight with a game against Independence. The game begins at 8 p.m.
