Team defeats Frontier and Mira Monte
The Taft freshmen girls basketball team may have gotten off on the wrong foot to begin the season, but they attempted to bounce back Thursday evening with a pair of wins in the Independence Tournament in Bakersfield.
Taft had a scare in the first game when they edged out Frontier 14-13.
Faith Kast, Brianna Morales and Reagan Montgomery each had 4 points in the game while Jaydnn Rosenberger had 2.
The Lady Wildcats had an easier time in the second game after they defeated Mira Monte 17-13.
“This was a great game because all of the girls were involved,” said Michelle Gerry. “I really felt like the team was playing as a team and we really wanted to beat Mira Monte after losing to them in our first game. Our defense was great and een though the game was very physical the girls stayed in the game and continued to fight.”
Faith Kast led Taft in scoring with 11 while Reagan Montgomery had 6.
Taft completes the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m.
