Team's victory was by forfeit

The Taft junior varsity boys soccer team got a little bit of everything this past Friday and Saturday when they went 1-1-1 at the Liberty Tournament in Bakersfield.

“Overall we didn’t do as well as we wanted,” said Taft coach Jose Barrera. “We were in a tough bracket with Liberty and Golden Valley having varsity players playing on their teams but we will keep working on our mistakes and prepare ourselves for upcoming matches."

With the tournament record, the Wildcats are currently 5-2-2 on the season.

Taft got their lone victory of the tournament when East Bakersfield didn’t show up for the first match, giving the Wildcats the victory. Taft’s lone tie of the match came in the second match after they tied Arvin 1-1.

“The boys played hard and fought hard the whole game,” said Barrera.

Taft’s loss came in the final match of the tournament thanks to a 3-1 loss to Golden Valley. Adrian Luna had the lone goal for the Wildcats in that match.

The Wildcats are off until Tuesday, Jan.5 when they host Mira Monte. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
