Board of Trustees to hold special meeting

Taft Union High School Principal Bernardo Valenzuela has resigned after 3 years here.

The Taft Union High School District Board of Trustees will be asked to accept his resignation at a special meeting Wednesday at noon in the TUHS Board room.

Assistant Principal Mary Alice Finn is being recommended to replace him on an interim basis.

In his resignation letter, dated Monday, Valenzuela, who was hired in June 2013, said he is leaving Taft to accept another job at an unnamed district.

The resignation is effective on June 30, Valenzuela said.

He said he wouldn't name the district because his hiring is pending approval by a board.

The new job will allow him to be closer to his family, he said.

Valenzuela was assistant principal at Indio High School School before coming to Taft to replace Marilyn Brown, who retired.

The trustees will discuss both Valenzuela's resignation and the recommendation from Superintendent Blanca Cavazos to hire Finn as interim principal in closed session before acting in open session.
