The Taft man charged with felony hit and run from a November 2015 car crash in South Taft has accepted a plea deal.

Shaun Keith Cowan pleaded no contest to one felony count of hit and run causing injury on Tuesday in Kern County Superior Court in Lamont and two other hit and run counts were dismissed as well as a charge of driving on a license that was suspended or revoked for DUI.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 23

Cowan was arrested by Bakersfield Police on July 6 on a warrant issued by the Kern County District Attorney on March 23, according to court and jail records.

Cowan was accused of driving a car involved in a crash on Nov. 8 at the intersection of Buena Vista and Shattuck Avenue that left his passenger critically injured and resulted in less severe injuries to the driver and occupants of another vehicle.

The crash left the victim pinned in the front seat of the car which came to rest near a damaged power pole.

Cowan was apparently injured in the collision, but fled the scene and remained on the loose until his capture in Bakersfield.
