Barajas due back in court Aug. 3
The man accused of head-butting a police officer is being held without bail while he awaits his next court appearance.
Daniel Barajas, 27 of Ventura, is charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and is being held on a no-bail warrant fromVentura County for cultivation of marijuana or hashish.
Barajas has pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and is due back in court for pretrial hearing on Aug. 3 and a preliminary hearing on Aug. 10.
He was arrested by Taft Police following a traffic stop on the 300 block of Monroe Street on July 19.
During the course of the traffic stop, Barajas tried run run away and struggled with officers, Chief of Police Ed Whiting said.
He was subdued, but after being taken into custody head-butted an officer, inflicting a superficial injury, Whiting said.
