Coach who led Wildcats to second in CIF Central Section calls it 'a tough decision'

Robert Lumsden, who led the Taft Union High School boys basketball team on a magical run all the way to the CIF Central Section Championship game and into the state playoffs this past season, is leaving the Wildcats.

He's taking over the Highland High boys varsity team.

"It was a tough decision but one I had to make," he said.

He signed his contract with the Kern High School District on Thursday.

The Wildcats finished second in the South Sequoia League season last winter, but made a huge impact in the CIF Central Section Div. IV playoffs.

Seeded 11th in a 16-team bracket, the Wildcats pulled off upsets of No. 6 Rosamond in the opening round, then beat SSL Champion and No. 3 seed Robert F. Kennedy in the second round

and beat Orosi in the semifinals to move into the Div. IV finals against top seeded Immanuel Academy where their run ended with a loss.
