Four Taft teams will be playing their first year in the Golden Empire Youth Football League

When a young program starts out there are bound to be changes to the system. The Taft Wildcatters football teams will be experiencing some of those changes this season as they begin year two.

The main change is the new league the Wildcatters will be a part of. Unlike last year when Taft played against teams from Cal City, Arvin, Cesar Chavez and Bakersfield this year the Wildcatters will be a part of the 20 team Golden Empire Youth Football League.

This year the teams Taft will be going up against are like Taft in that they are feeder programs.

Taft will also not have to worry about traveling to places like Cal City or Delano.

Instead, the Wildcatters will have eight home games starting Aug.27 when they go up against the Southwest (Stockdale) Spartans.
Taft follows up with games against Freedom (Liberty) on Sept.3, Wolverines (Ridgeview) on Sept.10, Ravens (Independence) on Sept.17, the Gladiators (Shafter) on Sept.24, Southwest on Oct.1, the Talons (Bakersfield Christian) on Oct.8, the Bengals (Wasco) Oct.15, the Cardinals on Oct.22.

The only road game for the Wildcatters during that stretch will be at Bakersfield Christian on Oct.8.

Another change this year is the extension of the schedule to nine games.

Also the Wildcatters will be expanding from three to four teams and they will be called the freshmen, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity teams.
