Taft Police investigating after decomposing remains of man discovered near tank
A decomposed body was found in a gulley just off 25 Hill Road Wednesday morning and Taft Police are investigating the scene.
The body is believed to be that of a man, Lt. Pete Aranda said, but its not possible to identify the body as this point because of its condition.
There are no obvious signs of trauma, Aranda said.
It is not considered a suspicious death at this point, Aranda said, just a death investigation.
The Kern County District Attorney's crime lab is being called in to assist in the investigation.
The body was discovered just before 8 a.m. by a passer-by who called Kern County Sheriff's deputies.
Deputies arrived and determined the body is just within a section of the city limits.
It is located near an old, rusted tank setting in a gully on the east side of 25 Hill road about a quarter mile southwest of the west end of South Street.
