Taft man booked on drug, weapons charges

Taft Police arrested a suspect on weapons and drug charges Tuesday morning following traffic stop on the 400 bock of Kern Street.

Lt. Pete Aranda said police received information that the suspect, Alfredo Jesus Uriarte, 30, was in possession of a loaded weapon.

An officer spotted the vehicle at Fourth and Kern and made a traffic stop a short distance away.

Uriarte was detained, Aranda said, and a search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

Uriarte was already on bail for a prior weapons charge, Aranda said, and officers determined he was also under the influence of a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Taft jail on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a loaded firearm while under the influence, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
