Leslie was born December 25, 1954 to Floyd and Emma Walker in Muleshoe, Texas, and passed away August 3, 2016 in Bakersfield, California. She was the youngest of 5 children; she was 61. Leslie attended the Catholic Church in Bakersfield. She truly loved the Lord and prayed daily for her family and the needs of others. She loved her family dearly and was always there for them. She touched the lives of many friends with her wisdom, compassion, and love.
Leslie attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Taft, then on to Taft Union High School.
She worked at Taft National Bank for a short time where she met and married Charles Rhoades. They made their home in Bakersfield.
Her hobbies were her family and her phone. The family was her treasure. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for them.
Leslie was preceded in death by the parents; Floyd and Emma Walker, her son Terry Shawn Gravely, her nephews Jeffery Perry and Brian Scott Walker, and her sister, Melinda (Walker) Armstrong Kirsch. Leslie is survived by her husband, Chuck Rhoades, one brother and his wife, Dewy and Sherrie Walker, two sisters; Louise (Walker) Brown and Jo Ellen (Walker) Knowles, and her very best friend Steve Swaim, her daughters Rachael Rhoades-Bryan and Tempest Walker, grandchildren; Allysa, Amanda and Kaylee,Cayden, Anthony and Caitlin Walker, great grandchildren; Sativa, Presley, and Baby Jayce, and her precious “babies” Lollie and Mo-mo (her dogs). She was known as “Nonnie” (or Honey) to them.
She suffered for years with respiratory problems and was recently diagnosed with “End Stage Lung Disease.” She was referred to USC Keck University in Los Angeles for double lung transplant. It did not happen.
Leslie was a devoted wife to a loving husband; she was a great mother, and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was generous and kind to the homeless and poor. She was a devout Christian who loved and believed in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Her warmth, compassion, and gentle understanding will truly be missed by her many, many friends and family. The Holy Rosary and Mass will be held on August 16, 2016 at 8:30 am at
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
