Varsity opens regular season Friday at South Tournament

After weeks of practicing among themselves, the Taft freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams got a chance to play against other opponents Tuesday afternoon when they competed in a scrimmage at Arvin.

“The scrimmage went great,” said Taft coach Adeana McDaniel Furman, “It gave all three teams an opportunity to get everyone some playing time and allow us to beat us on someone else besides ourselves.”

According to Furman, each team “has some growing to do during the preseason, with varsity focusing on serve receive and fluidity while the junior varsity is working on transitioning from offense to defense and rotations while the freshmen team is focusing on fundamentals and their volleyball IQ.

The Taft varsity team opens their regular season Friday when they compete in the South Tournament. Meanwhile, the junior varsity team kicks off their season Friday at the West Tournament.
