Taft got first taste of another opponent
Friday night’s game had all the feelings of a regular season game from the referees to the fans in the stands. Only it wasn’t as the Taft High football teams got one final tune up by going up against South and Tehachapi at home.
“I thought things went good,” said Taft coach George Falgout. “We had some good stuff.”
The scrimmage started off with the teams practicing their punting with the Wildcats starting by punting to South.
After the teams took their turns punting and receiving, the three teams each had three turns at the point extra try attempt.
Taft, Tehachapi and South then moved to the main part of the field where they had three sessions with ten plays on offense and another on defense.
Falgout feels there were several players that stepped up during the scrimmage starting with Harley Morgan.
“Harley Morgan stepped up big for us on D,” said Falgout.
Others that stepped up for Falgout were Mason Floyd and Cameron Ginn.
“All around we had some guys make some plays up front,” said Falgout.
Originally the Wildcat freshmen and junior varsity teams were supposed to start before the varsity game but due to the hot weather, the freshmen and junior varsity scrimmage was held at the same time as the varsity scrimmage with the freshmen and JV scrimmage taking place on the practice field.
During the scrimmage, the JV teams were on one side of the field while the freshmen teams competed on the other side of the practice field.
Taft returns home Friday when they kick off the 2016 season with a game against Golden Valley. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
