The lone goal was scored in the second half
De Anza- Sometimes all it takes for a team to move on in the soccer playoffs is one goal. That was the case for the No.6 seeded Taft College soccer team Tuesday afternoon when they edged out No.3 seed DeAnza 1-0 in the second round of the Northern California bracket of the California Community College Association's men's soccer tournament.
By winning, Taft College advances to the next round of the playoffs Saturday where they will face No.2 seed Hartnell.
The lone goal of the match came in the second half when Steven Bogden scored the goal with Josh Sanchez getting the assist as the cougars were playing at a man advantage.
While goals were at a premium, red and yellow cards were not.
De Anza's Josh Varen got the first one in the 17th minute with a red card. After Taft College got a yellow card, the Cougars' Josh Sanchez got a red card in the 82nd minute. As a result, Sanchez will not be playing in Saturday's match.
