Victim's Acura crashes head-on into semi truck just west of SLO County Line. Roadway closed for hours

An Arizona man was killed when his Accura Integra collided head-on with a semi-truck on Highway 46 just west of the Kern-San Luis Obispo County line Monday night.

The accident touched off a fire and closed both Highway 46 and Highway 41 for nearly seven hours

The California Highway Patrol says unsafe passing played a part in the crash.

the victim, who has not been publicly identified, was westbound on Highway 46 just east of the Shandon "Y" where Highway 41 goes northeast towards Fresno and Highway 46 goes southeast into Kern County.

The Integra was passing was in the eastbound lanes passing another vehicle when it collided head-on with the truck.

After the crash the wrecked Integra travelled into the dry grass and caught fire, sparking a grass fire.

The driver of the semi, a 33-year-old man from Calgary, Canada, was not injured, the CHP said.

Westbound Highway 46 was closed at Highway 33 from the time of the crash, about 8:50 p.m., until 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the CHP.
