Wildcats to follow other schools to beat the heat

Taft High's sports teams got the go-ahead to practice in the early morning hours during the current heat wave.
Athletic Director Pete Lango sent an email to Wildcat coaches tuesday afternoon after researching policies in other districts.
Lango told the staff that it is permissible to practice in the relatively cool early morning hours when school policy bans workouts in the afternoon hours.
"If possible I would strongly encourage you to practice in the morning until we get a significant change in our weather," Lango said.
All practices at TUHS were cancelled for Monday and Tuesday and several athletic events were postponed due to the heat.
Some other schools in the county were practicing as early as 5 a.m. in the morning to avoid the heat.
Today's varsity, junior varsity and frosh volleyball games against Highland and tennis matches at home and away against Bakersfield Christian were called off as were a frosh-soph volleyball tournament in Shafter and junior varsity tennis tournament in Wasco, Lango said.
