Community and local government leaders will report on important issues on April 5

The Taft District Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Taft will hold the seventh annual State of the City Luncheon at OT Cookhouse on April 5 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Community and local government leaders will report about the important issues facing the community and how current situations affect the citizens of Taft and the surrounding areas.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the luncheons and is in charge of inviting the speakers. The speaker invitation list is based upon what is currently happening in our community—not just the challenges, but also the positive examples of the reasons we enjoy living in Taft.
This year’s theme, Build It and They Will Come, is a nod to the new construction that is being completed or will be starting this year.
Mayor Dave Noerr City Manager Craig Jones, who will talk about the recently-completed Transit Center and the plans for its use, and the new car wash.
Developer Bob Colston will share the next phase of his Sandy Creek Estates.
Representatives of the West Side Health Care District will update the progress for the new Healthcare Campus and Dr. Deb Daniels, Superintendent/President of the West Kern Community College District, discuss the progress of the new Student Center currently under construction at Taft College.
“Economic downturn, big business moving out, and challenges with homelessness are real issues, but they are not our community’s whole story. We still have much to celebrate,” said Chamber Executive Director Dr. Kathy Orrin. "The Chamber is hopeful that the citizens of Taft take advantage of this opportunity to hear from the people in our community who have a vision for what can be built . . . literally, in Taft. These leaders are putting their time, expertise, and money into our community.
The Luncheon begins at noon, and the speakers will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m.
The event ends at 1:30 p.m.
