Police check out car with no headlights and search leads to discovery of meth, heroin, officers say
A Taft man was arrested on felony drug trafficking charges Monday night.
A Taft Police Department news release said an officer was conducting a patrol check of the Taft Petroleum Club on Petroleum Club Road when the officer located a suspicious vehicle driving in the area with its headlights off.
The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and determined that the passenger, identified as Stuart Leland Cowan Jr., was on probation and subject to search for narcotics.
When he was searched, officers said they found approximately 24.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and approximately 1.3 grams of suspected heroin.
Cowan, 35, was booked into Taft Jail on one count of possession of a controlled substance for sale and one count of possession of a narcotic for sale.
