Scott Spielman, Cynthia Zimmer to square off Tuesday evening
Candidates for Kern County District Attorney will be in the spotlight next week at the Taft Chamber of Commerce's Primary Election Candidate Forum.
The event will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at OT Cookhouse.
Also on the agenda are two races for Kern County Superior Court and Taft College's Measure C to authorize a construction bond issue.
All the issues are on the June 3 primary election ballot.
Scott Spielman and Cynthia Zimmer, both deputy Kern County District Attorneys, are seeking the position now held by Lisa Green, who is retiring.
Both candidates have confirmed they will be at the forum.
Only one of the two candidates for Kern County Sheriff, incumbent Donny Youngblood, will be at the forum.
Chamber Director of Operations and Marketing Shannon Jones told the Midway Driller that challenger Justin Fleeman told the Chamber he has another engagement in Bakersfield that night. There will be no discussion with the California State Senate 16th District candidates Shannon Grove, Ruth Muser-Lopez and Gregory Tatum will not be attending, Jones said. Four candidates for Kern County Superior Court Judge will be there.
Chad Louie and BrandonMartin and running for Seat 10 and John Fielder and M. Cole Knight are running for Seat 14.
There will also be a discussion of Taft College Measure C, a $50 million general obligation bond.
